Becoming Self Sufficient
You want to become self sufficient and you want to know more about me?
My name is Jules…
I’ve had a long standing interest in treading as lightly as possible on our amazing planet, so green energy, alternative living and growing my own food are all subjects close to my heart. I am an avid organic gardener and often referred to as “the recycling queen”.
My Experience
I was co-owner of a small nursery propagating ‘edible’ plants for several years and hold a T.A.F.E. Certificate III in horticulture. I have more than 30 years experience growing my own food.
My Mission…
is to encourage as many people as possible to start growing their own food and becoming as self sufficient in as many areas of their life as possible. This improves both our individual lives and the well-being of our personal and global environments. It is also a great way to teach your kids about the real world – where real food comes from, how to grow it, the deep satisfaction from growing something from seed – all valuable experiences for young and (not so) old.
I want to make sure in whatever way I can that old knowledge is not lost. In this fast-paced world we often reach for a quick fix – run to the supermarket, or worse a fast-food chain, to grab something quick for dinner. The art of considering a meal, where its parts have come from, taking time to both cook and savor it seems to have almost disappeared. Many have forgotten that good health comes from a good diet, plenty of clean water, enough rest, sleep and peace of mind. We get that on our homestead and it is my wish that those who want this kind of lifestyle can find enough practical information to create it for themselves, even if they grew up in an entirely different situation.
This is me at my computer – a bit cleaner than I usually look when I’ve been in the garden for a while. But I really love to get a bit of dirt under my nails and smell the wonderful scents of my organic garden. There is something deeply spiritual about tilling the soil. It definitely grounds me! I live on 111 acres, so that’s a lot of dirt!
What I Offer
I plan to post regularly, so come by and visit often. I’ll have tips and information on vegetable gardening, raising chickens, green energy, preserving produce, recipes, building things for the homestead and of course updates of my own homestead life.
How You Can Get Involved
I look forward to your comments under the posts and hearing about what you’re doing in your sustainable lifestyle – it makes this much more fun and interesting for everyone when we share our experiences – successes, failure, joys, creations etc.
Or feel free to contact me 🙂
Warmest regards,
